Permission was given for Light N Strike (IRE), to wear a red hood to post.

An enquiry was held into the running and riding of Illico De Moutiers (FR), ridden by James Best and trained by Richard Hobson, which was held up at the rear of the field throughout, before being asked for a hands and heels effort shortly after turning into the home straight, whereupon he stayed on at the one pace under tender handling to finish fifth of six, beaten 29 ¼ lengths.

The rider and the trainer were interviewed and shown recordings of the race; the Veterinary Officer reported that a post-race examination of Illico De Moutiers (FR) failed to reveal any abnormalities.

The rider stated that his instructions were to get the gelding into a nice rhythm and to get him settled in order to get home, as Illico De Moutiers (FR) is a gassy horse.

He continued that he felt the gelding was running flat out from an early stage, a fact he reported at scales, and that they were going a faster pace than he was comfortable at.

Down the back straight he stated that as Illico De Moutiers (FR) jumped low, and he was mindful to get the gelding to jump round safely.

Shortly after turning in, Best added that he began to ask his mount for an effort, whereupon he stayed on at the one pace, not gaining any ground on Universal Island (GB), who finished fourth, beating Illico De Moutiers (FR) by 6 lengths, a distance which remained the same for the entirety of the straight.

Hobson confirmed the instructions and explained that Illico De Moutiers (FR) had picked up an injury after his first run over hurdles, which had held him up at home for 3 weeks.

He further informed the Stewards that the gelding is a big, green, inexperienced horse who needs to learn to settle.

Hobson finished by elaborating on Best’s comments regarding Illico De Moutiers (FR) running one paced up the straight by stating that he wants further than the 2mile trip and that he will be stepped up in trip on his next start.
