Prior to this race, Kim Bailey was asked to explain the reason why he was running Mergeela (IRE) here at Wincanton on going described as Good to Firm, Firm in places, having been reported by a representative that the filly would prefer an easier surface following its run at Fakenham on 22 April 2019, where the going was officially described as Good to Firm.
Bailey explained that he felt this report was incorrect and should have been reported that the filly prefers a sound surface.
He was therefore happy to allow Mergeela (IRE) to take its chance today.
Mikey Hamill, the rider of the winner, Mergeela (IRE), was suspended for 4 days for using his whip above the permitted level from turning into the home straight.
