Permission was given for High Acclaim (USA) to go early to post.
Robert Winston, the rider of Escape The City (GB), placed fifth, had appeared to stop riding shortly before the winning post.
After being interviewed and shown recordings of the incident, it was accepted that Winston had reported at Scales that Escape The City (GB) had hung left and his explanation that as the filly had changed leads on the approach to the finishing line and having had no more to give, he therefore felt it prudent to hold her together in the final strides was noted.
The Stewards were satisfied that Winston’s actions had not affected his mount’s finishing position, as the fast finishing High Acclaim (USA) had beaten him by a neck.
The performance of Stringybark Creek (GB), which finished unplaced, was considered.
David Loughnane’s explanation that the gelding had failed to stay the 1 mile 2 furlongs on this occasion, having raced 9 days previously was noted.
