An enquiry was held to consider why Rebecca Menzies was running Cool Possibility (IRE) here at Haydock on going described as Good (Good to Firm in Places), having declared the gelding a non-runner at Beverley on 17 June 2020 on ground with the same official description.
The trainer stated that Cool Possibility (IRE) has been made a non-runner on two occasions recently, after entering on Softer ground which has subsequently firmed up.
With the short term forecast predicting no prospect of guaranteed ease in the ground, the owners were happy for Cool Possibility (IRE) to take its chance here today.
Approaching 2 furlongs out, Well Funded (IRE), placed fourth, lugged right at the same time as Ned Pepper (IRE), unplaced, shifted left causing Fleeting Visit (GB), unplaced, to be checked in its run, but after viewing a recording of the incident, it was found that no riding offence was involved and that it had not improved the placing of Well Funded (IRE).
Approaching the final furlong, High Wells (GB), placed second, edged left at the same time as Fleeting Visit (GB), unplaced, shifted right, causing Ned Pepper (IRE), unplaced, to be slightly checked, but after viewing a recording of the incident, it was found that no riding offence was involved and that it had not improved the placing of High Wells (GB).
Following the race, the Veterinary Officer reported that a post-race examination of Ned Pepper (IRE) during routine testing revealed the gelding was showing signs of heat stress.
