Permission was given for Clipsham Gold (IRE) to wear a red hood to the start.
Approaching three furlongs out, Wonderful Thing (IRE), placed fifth, which at the time was hanging, edged left-handed momentarily crowding Say Grace (IRE), placed fourth, which in turn caused Clipsham Gold (IRE), placed third, to become crowded for room, but after viewing a recording of the incident, it was found that no riding offence was involved.
The winner, Maokai (GB) appeared to show improved form compared with its previous run at Kempton on 3rd August 2022 where the gelding finished eight, beaten 14¾ lengths.
Harry & Roger Charlton representative’s explanation that it was the gelding’s first run in a handicap race and that it had run to its handicap rating, was noted.
Maokai (GB) was routine tested.
Following the race, Frederick Larson reported that Wonderful Thing (IRE), placed fifth, ran too free and hung left-handed throughout.
Aiden Keeley reported that Say Grace (IRE), placed fourth, stopped quickly and the Veterinary Officer reported that Say Grace, had bled from the nose.
