On chase ratings King Johns Castle was 28lbs 'well in' here and despite finishing second on five of his last six previous starts, stayed on well to win this comfortably.
According to his trainer Arthur Moore, King Johns Castle is bound for the Aintree Grand National and will contest a handicap hurdle on route to Aintree. The gelding has done most of his racing over middle distances but was second in the competitive three mile Leopardstown Chase last January. Whether or not he can stay 4m4f is open to question.
Gabrona was a close fifth at Gowran last month and ran well again here. She should pick up a similar event soon while there is plenty of life in 11yo Jasmin D'Oudairies, who produced a game effort to take third.
Sole Bonne Femme jumped to the right at a few hurdles but ran a sound race. He will make a nice chaser in time while De La Rue (weakened quickly before the last) and Taradoun (raced on the outer in search of better ground) are far better than this showing.
Non-Runner was Here Comes Sally (lame).
