An enquiry was held into the running and riding of FIELD EXHIBITION (IRE), ridden by Alan Doyle and trained by Grace Harris, which appeared to be tenderly ridden until approaching the last when the mare ran on to finish sixth, beaten 6 ½ lengths. The rider and the trainer were interviewed and shown recordings of the race; the Veterinary Officer reported that a post-race examination of FIELD EXHIBITION (IRE) failed to reveal any abnormalities. The rider stated that his instructions were to jump off mid-division, get the mare settled and creep into the race down the back straight. He added that FIELD EXHIBITION (IRE) jumped poorly in the early stages, made progress towards the end of the back straight to be behind the main bunch of runners but with the leaders quickening up he did not wish to put the mare under pressure at this stage. He therefore made his effort from approaching the final hurdle. The trainer confirmed the instructions but added she was unhappy with the ride given as she considered that Doyle had sat too far out of his ground. Doyle was suspended for 14 days for failing to take alll reasonable and permissible measures to ensure his horse was run on its merits in that he had made his effort too late to obtain the best possible placing
Rex Dingle reported that RUARAIDH HUGH (IRE), unplaced, hung right-handed.
