Model Athlete battled well to see off the strong challenge of Sporting Medic on the run-in.
Noel Meade's charge looked to have matters settled when skipping clear before the second last but Sporting Medic closed to join him at the last.
Niall Madden got a good tune out of his mount on the run-in, however, finding that bit more to land the spoils.
The winner had fallen when last seen at Fairyhouse in December but had previously run well when chasing home the smart Rathmore Castle at Navan.
Sporting Medic had only shown moderate form on two starts over timber but stepped up here and attracted some support (13/2 to 11/2).
He found another gear to launch a challenge at the last but just couldn't match the winner in the closing stages. He should be winning over hurdles during the summer.
Dan Kahtan turned out again having chased home Captain Conflict at Tramore on Monday.
He took them along but had no more to offer when headed three out, keeping on behind the duelling front pair.
Khair Bar, ridden in a moderate seventh two out, kept on without posing a threat while Moscow Towers came under pressure in fifth three out and could only keep on at one pace.
Banjoman was reported to have burst a blood vessel while Yelenas Gold lost her action and was pulled up.
Artic Sand, Fragineer, Miami Moon, Museo, Tardenois, Wait For Green, An Cailin Coole all came out because of ground.
