He got there nicely but it was hard enough work I suppose on the ground. The only negative you would take was there was a bunch of us there turning in. You always like to see the chaff and the wheat apart a bit. He did it well so you couldn't fault him. It's hard work out there. For a horse first-time out you'd have to be happy. J.W. Kennedy, rider of Sutton Place trained by Gordon Elliott, reported to the Clerk of Scales that his mount ran green and jumped right. B.J. Cooper, rider of Balko Des Flos (FR) trained by W.P. Mullins, reported to the Clerk of Scales that his mount jumped poorly. Mr D.G. Lavery, rider of Twilight Shadow, trained by B. R. Hamilton, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that his mount gurgled on pulling up. The Turf Club Veterinary Officer examined Sutton Place, trained by Gordon Elliott, at the request of the Stewards and reported the animal to be clinically abnormal. The Stewards enquired into the running and riding of Twilight Shadow, ridden by Mr D.G. Lavery, and trained by B. R. Hamilton. Evidence was heard from the rider and trainer concerned. Mr D.G. Lavery, stated that his instructions were to settle his charge and try and get her jumping, while riding to come home well. He added that the filly raced freely and ran out of racing room before the turn into the straight before tiring in the closing stages and gurgling on pulling up. B. R. Hamilton, confirmed the instructions adding that the animal is highly strung and bearing this in mind he was satisfied with the ride. He concluded by saying that his charge would be suited by better ground. The Stewards also received a report from the Turf Club Veterinary Officer who stated that Twilight Shadow lost a front shoe. It was also noted that the filly was highly strung and difficult to examine. Having viewed the recording of the race and considered the evidence, the Stewards noted the explanations offered.
