The Stewards interviewed D.E. Hogan, rider of Ask Katie, concerning his use of the whip in the last two furlongs of this race. Evidence was heard from the rider concerned. Having viewed a recording of the race and considered the evidence the Stewards were of the opinion that D.E. Hogan was in breach of R10(3)(f) by using his whip with excessive frequency and also R10(4) by failing to give his mount time to respond to the whip and consequently suspended him for 3 racedays having taken his previous record into consideration. The Stewards requested a report from John Joseph Murphy, trainer, as to the apparent improvement in form of Grande Waltz (GER), placed first, as compared with its recent form. The trainer reported that his yard was under a cloud at the time that this animal last ran and since then he stopped running horses until recently. He felt that this animal had strengthened up for the break and also handled today's ground conditions. Having considered the evidence the Stewards noted the content of the report.
