Permission was given for War Of Courage (IRE) to go early to post.
An enquiry was held into the running and riding of Honky Tonk Man (IRE), ridden by Jason Watson and trained by Roger Charlton, which broke greenly from the stalls and bronked for a number of strides after which Watson appeared to let the colt coast home with no apparent effort from the saddle to finish sixth of six, beaten by 16 ¼ lengths.
The rider was interviewed and shown recordings of the race.
Watson stated that his instructions were to track the favourite, which he was drawn next to, and ride his race from there.
He added that Honky Tonk Man (IRE) had become 8 to 10 lengths detached from the field after his antics at the start of the race, at which point he allowed the colt to run through his hands but felt there was little response, so he felt it prudent to allow HONKY TONY MAN (IRE) to finish in his own time on his first run on ground which he felt would be testing for the colt.
His explanation was noted.
