Prior to this race, Alastair Ralph was asked to explain the reason why he was running Sweet Magic (IRE) here at Chepstow on going described as Soft, having declared the mare a non-runner here at Chepstow on 19 March 2023 on ground with the same official description.
Ralph stated that he was satisfied that the conditions were drying out and was therefore happy for Sweet Magic (IRE) to take its chance.
His explanation was noted.
The winner CHLOE’S COURT (IRE), appeared to show improved form compared with its previous run at Fontwell on 4 April 2023 where the mare finished eighth of ten runners beaten 33 lengths.
The Stewards noted the explanation given by Robert Walford that CHLOE’S COURT (IRE) had benefitted from a more galloping track on this occasion, and in a race, which in his opinion, was less competitive.
Following the race, Jay Tidball reported that Sweet Magic (IRE), unplaced, hung badly left-handed.
