This is my Cheltenham and it's great,. We told Paddy to be handy and not to go too wide. He followed the instructions to the tee. Thankfully he had a horse everywhere he needed it. He had ability back in his bumper days and his bumper run worked out really well and did his first run over hurdles wasn't a bad run behind a horse of Joseph O'Brien's, Hallmark. Then for some reason or another, we couldn't figure it out, he just wasn't living up to what we thought he was. On his first run in a handicap he bounced back to himself. I train in a little village between Ballinasloe and Portumna and I've 12 horses in. I might get one or two more now!. This is my first winner at Galway. The Turf Club Veterinary Officer reported to the Stewards that He Is Top Class trained by Donal Hassett was found to have blood on the nose as a result of Exercise Induced Pulmonary Haemorrhage. Rachael Blackmore, rider of Whatsinthecorner, trained by John Joseph Hanlon, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that her mount met with interference before the second last hurdle. C. Brassil, rider of He's Our Man, trained by Anthony McCann, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that his mount met with interference before the second last hurdle which hampered his chance. B.J. Geraghty, rider of Successor, trained by Joseph Patrick O'Brien, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that his mount met with interference before the second last hurdle. Mr J.C. Barry, rider of Bashful Beauty trained by John James Feane, reported to the Clerk of Scales that his mount finished lame. The Turf Club Veterinary Officer confirmed that this animal was lame on his left fore post race. P. Townend, rider of Mountain Kingdom, trained by C.A.McBratney, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that his mount was reluctant at the start, jumped off slowly, cocked his jaw and ran out before the first hurdle. The Stewards requested a report from Shane Ryder, trainer, as to the apparent improvement in form of Pateen, placed first, as compared with its recent run. The trainer reported that this animal disappointed at Listowel and was subsequently examined by the race course veterinary Officer who found no abnormality on a post race endoscopic examination. Three days later his own Veterinary Surgeon found the animal to have an inflamed throat on endoscopic examination but did not prescribe any treatment. Having given the animal reduced exercise for two weeks he returned to full training and hard work. In his opinion the animal travelled well to half way at Listowel but sulked when tackled before the third last hurdle. Having considered the evidence the Stewards noted the content of the report.
