An enquiry was held into the running and riding of Eyes (IRE), ridden by Nicola Currie and trained by Jamie Osborne, which broke slowly and became a long way detached very quickly before finishing last of eleven runners, beaten by 52 ¾ lengths.
The rider was interviewed and shown recordings of the race and the Veterinary Officer reported that a post-race examination of the filly failed to reveal any abnormalities.
The rider stated that her instructions had been to jump out and follow the trainer’s other, more experienced runner, Hot Scoop (GB), which was drawn alongside her but in the early stages of the race, she did not feel Eyes (IRE) was moving correctly behind.
Currie added that in the past the filly had put her stifle out at home and she felt that this may have re-occurred here so she was in two minds whether to pull the filly up or continue, however she felt that Eyes (IRE) was moving far better from 4 furlongs out.
When she weighed in, Currie reported that Eyes (IRE) was slowly away and had moved poorly in the early stages of the race.
Her explanation was noted.
