The Starter reported that A Sure Welcome (GB) was unruly in the stalls and withdrawn.
Henry Oliver was informed that the gelding could not run until the day after passing a stalls test.
As it was the second occasion within the previous 12 months that A Sure Welcome (GB) had been reported, a further report within the same period would mean the gelding would be prevented from having a stalls test for 6 months.
Tom Queally, the rider of Spirited Guest (GB), which finished fifth, beaten 5 lengths, was asked to explain his riding in the final 1 ½ furlongs of the race as his mount appeared to be less vigorously ridden.
Queally explained that he felt Spirited Guest (GB) had not responded when he initially asked the horse for an effort approximately 2 furlongs out, whereupon in his opinion the gelding may have been feeling the ground, so he therefore felt it prudent to nurse his mount home under hands and heels.
His explanation was noted.
