Approximately 2 furlongs out, Barenboim (GB), placed second, edged slightly left-handed causing the rider of Imperium (IRE), placed fourth, to briefly take a check but after viewing a recording of the incident, it was found that no riding offence was involved and that it had not improved the placing of Barenboim (GB).
The winner, Solent Gateway (IRE), appeared to show improved form compared with its previous run at Southwell on 8 January 2023 where the gelding finished fifth, beaten 19 ½ lengths.
Hugo Palmer’s explanation that the gelding stripped fitter for its reappearance run following a 163-day break was noted.
Solent Gateway (IRE) was routine tested.
