Permission was given for Blenheim Belle (IRE) to wear a red hood to post.
An enquiry was held to consider the placings in this race after interference from approximately ½ furlong out when the winner, Ocean Ruler (GB), ridden by Callum Shepherd, interfered with Rikona (GB), placed third, ridden by Luke Morris, who in turn interfered with Nova Vida (GB), placed fourth, ridden by Tyler Heard.
The Stewards considered that the interference had improved Ocean Ruler (GB)’s placing as Rikona (GB) was taken significantly off its intended line for several strides and became unbalanced to be beaten by a short head and a nose at the line.
The Stewards felt that on the balance of probabilities, if Rikona (GB) had had an uninterrupted run to the line, it would have finished in front of Ocean Ruler (GB).
The Stewards therefore revised the placings as follows: First: Homeric (GB), Second: Rikona (GB), Third: Ocean Ruler (GB), Fourth: Nova Vida (GB).
The interference was found to be accidental as Ocean Ruler (GB) continued to hang right-handed, despite Shepherd’s best efforts, carrying Rikona (GB) off its intended line for several strides who in turn carried Nova Vida (GB) off its intended line.
Robert Havlin, the rider of the winner, Homeric (GB), was suspended for 2 days for using his whip above the permitted level inside the final furlong.
Following the race, Callum Shepherd reported that Ocean Ruler (GB), placed third, ran green under pressure.
