F.M. Berry, rider of Drillmaster (USA) trained by Charles O'Brien, reported to the Clerk of Scales that his mount hung left in the straight. The Stewards enquired into an incident about 150 yards from the finish involving Crazy Tornado, ridden by C.J. McGovern, placed fifth and Power Grid, ridden by G.F. Carroll, placed third, where it appeared both horses made contact. Evidence was heard from the riders concerned. Having viewed the recording of the race and considered the evidence, the Stewards were satisfied that the incident was accidental in nature and took no further action.
An extended handicap for three yrs old only (70 = 9st 10lb)
Weights - Top weight in the original handicap; shall not be less than 9st 10lb
Penalties - (after calculation of the handicap) A winner shall carry 5lb extra; for each race won. Any horse rated above 70 shall initially be treated as having that rating and the highest weight allotted shall be 9st 10lb. Subsequently, the excess over 70 in any rating shall be added to the weight allotted to that horse.
