An enquiry was held into the running and riding of Thosedaysaregone (IRE), ridden by Kevin Brouder and trained by Charles Byrne, which jumped off in front and was ridden handily in the early stages of the race, appearing to be considerately handled before dropping back through the field, until being asked for an effort turning in to the home straight to finish eighth of eight, beaten by 32¾ lengths.
The rider and the trainer were interviewed and shown recordings of the race; the Handicapper offered observations and the Veterinary Officer reported that a post-race examination, during routine testing of Thosedaysaregone (IRE), revealed the gelding to be lame on its right fore and left hind.
The rider stated his instructions were to sit handily behind the leaders making his effort in the home straight and to do the best he could.
He added that he was unable to carry out those instructions in the early stages of the race, as the gelding was, in his opinion running freely.
He further added that Thosedaysaregone (IRE) made a bad mistake at the third last flight and was unable to be competitive thereafter.
The trainer stated the ride didn’t accord with his instructions, however he was satisfied with the ride given due to the gelding being keen in the early stages and being unable to get cover.
Their explanations were noted.
Brouder was fined £140 for failing to report at Scales that Thosedaysaregone (IRE) ran too free.
Following the race, Jamie Hamilton reported that Dubai Angel (IRE), placed fourth, hung right throughout.
