we knew he liked it around here and it is horses for courses especially around here - I think this owner (Jimmy Matthews) would nearly buy a house in Downpatrick!. It was quite a big surprise (that he jumped well). This is why it has taken us so long to come hurdling because his jumping has been awful. His maiden hurdle and all he was absolutely appalling. He was different class today and he seems to be enjoying himself. Whatever Kate Kelly did in that Punchestown charity race, we have to thank her!. Maybe in a better quality race he could settle in. The Stewards advised John Joseph Hanlon, trainer of Novel Character, that a repeat of this horse's behaviour (very unruly in parade ring, chute and at the start) may render the horse liable to suspension in future

The Stewards received a report from the Clerk of the Scales, Ms. Colleen Murphy, that D.P. Holden, rider of Pat Coyne, trained by John W. Nicholson, placed 6th, weighed in 1.1lbs light following this race. Evidence was heard from the rider and trainer concerned. The rider stated that he could not account for the difference between his weighing out and weighing in weight other than he could have lost it in sweat during the race on a particularly warm day. The trainer stated that he placed all the equipment he received at weighing out on his charge and could not account for the discrepancy. Having considered the evidence, the Stewards disqualified Pat Coyne from 6th place in accordance with Rule 231 (i) and took no further action.

R.A. Doyle, rider of Greenandwhitearmy trained by Neil McKnight, reported to the Clerk of Scales that his mount's saddle slipped

The Irish Horseracing Regulatory Board Veterinary Officer examined Novel Character, trained by John Joseph Hanlon, at the request of the Stewards and reported the animal to be sore on its right side girth area. Samples were taken for analysis.
