James Doyle, the rider of Petite Jack (GB), which started favourite and finished sixth, beaten a neck for fifth, had appeared to stop riding on the run to the line.
After being interviewed and shown recordings of the incident, Doyle explained that he had positioned himself on the inside running rail turning in and had hoped that a gap would materialise, tactics that were successful when Petite Jack (GB) won last time out.
He added that the gelding had hung violently left-handed in behind runners to the point of being un-rideable.
When it became obvious a gap on the rail was not going to appear, he had attempted to make his run wide around Amazing Red (IRE) but had been unable to do so due to the gelding hanging; and had then been concerned about running onto the heels of those in front.
His explanation was noted.
