Review leopardstown 29th Jan
< Hurricane Fly blew away his rivals as he returned to action with a superb performance in the BHP Insurance Irish Champion Hurdle at Leopardstown.
Having his first run since last May and in testing conditions, the Willie Mullins-trained superstar was settled in third by Ruby Walsh behind his pacesetting stable companion Thousand Stars
The 4-5 favourite eased into the lead between the final two flights and cleared away with the minimum of fuss to beat Oscars Well eased down by six and a half lengths, with Thousand Stars third.
Mullins and Walsh completed a memorable afternoon when 9-4 favourite Boston Bob ploughed through the mud to defy top weight in the Synergy Security Solutions Novice Hurdle (Grade Two).< Lyreen Legend looked to have poached the race when he slipped into a clear advantage at the top of the straight, but Boston Bob grabbed him at the final flight and stayed on best to score by two and a quarter lengths.
The Peter Casey-trained Flemenstar signalled his arrival at the top table by demolishing the opposition in the Grade One Frank Ward Solicitors Arkle Novice Chase.
Beaten by Bog Warrior on his introduction to fences, the seven-year-old has done nothing but improve since and was landing his third consecutive victory.
Andrew Lynch sent him into the lead at the third-last and the 6-4 favourite was soon clear, chased at a respectable distance by Gift Of Dgab and was eased down to score by an impressive 19 lengths.
Jessie Harrington and Robbie Power landed a big pot with Citizenship on Saturday and they kept up the good work when Burn And Turn (100-30) led going to the last and came two and three-quarter lengths clear in the Frank Conroy Memorial Maiden Hurdle.
Francis Flood's Senior Again (9-2) got the better of a three-way fight up the run-in with Uncle Tom Cobley and Arkendale to take the Sandyford Handicap Chase by three-quarters of a length under Alan Crowe.
