Dinozzo caused a 25/1 upset to impressively win the Navan Welcomes Owners Median Auction Maiden at Navan today, scoring on debut for trainer Ger Lyons and jockey Colin Keane.
Carrying the colours of Sean Jones, the son of Lilbourne Lad raced in mid-division before making good headway to lead over a furlong out. Dinozzo did unbalance Keane for a stride with a furlong to race but the pair, for a hands and heels ride thereafter, stayed on well to beat off another promising newcomer Maneen by two lengths.
A delighted Ger Lyons later stated "he's as green a two-year-old as we have sent racing this year and was shouting and roaring beforehand!
"I was worried about the ground when declaring him on good to firm and then the rain came.
"He's a big, scopey horse and Colin was very impressed with him, and said he did it all very easily. It's exciting times and he'll get further."
Anthony "Tony" DiNozzo is a fictional character from the TV series NCIS.
