Cillian's Well gained a first win in the opening Tramore Amusement Park Maiden Hurdle at Tramore today, winning on his fourth start at 10/1 for trainer Liz Doyle and jockey Mikey Fogarty.
The son of Trans Island tracked leader Zagelle for much of the race and was left in front when that rival went badly wrong on the approach to the dip. Cillian's Well went on to shake off his other rivals and in the end scored a nine lengths win over dead-heaters Free Scorpoin and Sam King
Following Cillian's Well's win, trainer Doyle stated "he ran in a bumper here and I booked Jane Mangan because I thought he'd run well but he never picked up the bridle - it was embarrassing!
"He has improved with every run and I don't know how good he is but Mikey said he jumped amazing today and his future is over fences."
Zagelle was later reported to have suffered a fatal injury.
