I'm delighted with that, he jumped brilliant. Rachael (Blackmore) was brilliant on him again. I thought that was one of his best performances that I've seen for a while. I loved the way he picked up to the line, he was brilliant. At every fence he went in four behind and landed two behind, he was so good. There was one halfway down the back that he winged and I don't think that Rachael even expected it. I entered him in the Tingle Creek and I'll speak to Declan and see. It's three weeks so potentially he could go there. We'll definitely consider it or otherwise Leopardstown at Christmas. I always thought he was better on better ground but he loved that there. In the Champion Chase I said to Declan that we'd run him but he probably wouldn't like the ground but he loved it.

Obviously after El Fabiolo went you knew then that the race had opened right up and we felt we had a right chance then. Can mistakes happen more at the speed they go in this race, I don’t know. He had his thing at Christmas (fibrillating heart) and I just kept thinking the horse deserved to get his Grade One so much, to get this one is amazing. Everyone at home has done a fantastic job and the vets. The tests he went through after Christmas, his heart specialist was happy and the IHRB (Irish Horseracing Regulatory Board) was happy and everyone was. In fairness to Sam who looks after him, he hadn’t known him in such form. We took a view from Leopardstown in February we just wouldn’t train him hard and keep him fresh and happy and that’s what we did. We just wanted him really bullish and he’s been trying to buck Sam off for the last two weeks, so I’m not sure he was as happy with the plan as I was, but it’s worked out for us all now.

He had done a lot of work for this, we had targeted it during the summer and it seemed the right race for him. He's some horse to leap and she (Blackmore) is an amazing lady. Absolutely (a big day in him), he's a really good horse and was giving away plenty of weight. We've yet to win a Grade 1 (with him), it is something we would like to achieve. I think we will maybe enter him in the Tingle Creek, he seems to really enjoy it around there (third last year). We'll see, we will enjoy today most importantly.

I was worried about the ground but it looked like a good opportunity and he stayed at it well. Rachael walked the track, was where she wanted to be and she was spot on, fair play to her. We decided we'd give Cheltenham a miss this year and have a go at this and luckily it worked out. I'm delighted to see him win another one. Once we switched out of the Champion Chase, today was the day and I'll speak to Declan (Landy, owner) now. We were toying with the idea of stepping him up to 2m4f at Aintree and the Webster Cup is an option, but is less than two weeks away. Unfortunately he had been on the same course as Energumene as a novice but he's only a young horse and I'm sure we'll head over to Cheltenham next year.

he settled really well which is key to him and that is just what we wanted. It’s brilliant for the Landys (owners) who are all here today. we’ve always thought he was a brilliant jumper and it was just unfortunate a few times last year. Punchestown was probably a run too many last season. This was always an obvious race to start off but I’m not sure where we’ll go next. I’d imagine Leopardstown at Christmas would be one and whether we do anything between now and then I’m not sure. The Tingle Creek and the Hilly Way at Cork would be the two obvious races between now and Christmas if we do run him again.

I’m delighted with that and Rachael was really happy with him. He took a little blow turning in and is having another good blow now so hopefully he will come on from that. It’s great to get him back on track. Obviously he was very disappointing the first day and hopefully we can keep the heart right. Rachael said it’s very testing ground and she thinks he’ll be better on nicer ground. He did a piece of work since Tipperary and worked well. He’s just been tipping away since and we keep monitoring the heart. Certainly before and after he runs now we will always check his heart. Christmas may come a bit soon but there is a nice race at Naas in early January. He can go there and if all goes well then to the Irish Arkle.

He always worked well but coming for his first run it was a bit of a surprise I suppose. He jumped well but ours have generally needed their first run. The favourite falling at the last obviously helped. Rachael said he picked up really well so who knows what would have happened.
