Always on the gallop, Cops And Robbers (around 4/5 this morning into 8/15) landed the opening Wexford Opera Maiden Hurdle.
Trained by Noel Meade for Gigginstown House Stud, the chestnut (first time tongue-strap on today) saw it out best from the back of the last to beat off Tobar Na Gaoise (15/8 this morning out to 5/2) by a length.
Meade said of the Paul Carberry-partnered victor: "He didn't help himself as he jumped pretty moderate at times and no disrespect to the second jockey but he played into our hands.
"I hope our fellow is a bit better than that, he was just a bit leery in front and didn't jump the last few very well. He blew very hard after Fairyhouse (on his previous start just 4 days back) but he was in training with Michael Stoute for two years and sometimes it can take them longer to get ready.
"I don't think the trip is a problem with him. He will get two and a half. We will see how he goes and probably run him in a winners race next." (DM & EM)
