Red Calima blows away rivals
The Paul Nolan trained Red Calima justified strong support (3/1 - 2/1f) to win the Mount Leinster Maiden Hurdle at Wexford today, scoring at the eighth attempt over jumps. Wed 20th JunWell-backed Darwins gets job done
He is from the family of the Group performer Balthazaar's Gift and though his attentions have now been switched to the National Hunt sphere, Darwins Theory could well make a name for himself over jumps judging on how he has began life as a hurdler. On outing number two over timber, the Montjeu gelding justified favouritism in the New Ross Maiden Hurdle at Wexford under Paul Townend. Sat 17th MarCalima completes treble for Oxx & Murtagh
Johnny Murtagh & John Oxx had an evening to remember as Red Calima took the finale on the card at Leopardstown, the Avoca Maiden, to complete a near 10/1 treble for the pair. Thu 07th JulOxx pair dominate maiden
John Oxx sent out a 1-2 in the mile and a half maiden as 12/1 chance Saddler's Rock stayed on gamely under pressure to overhaul better-fancied stablemate Red Calima. Thu 23rd JunReview tipperary 23rd Jun
Self Preservation has a bright future ahead of her judging by her victory in the Irish Stallion Farms EBF Maiden at TipperaryThu 23rd Jun
Double for O'Brien as Apache takes last
Apache took the last race on the card, the Leopardstown Family Fun Day Maiden, as he was expected to, running out an easy five and a half length winner. Sun 29th May
After race at Wexford Wed, 20th Jun, 2012 (1st)
all in all he has been a bit of a disappointing horse . he won a Leopardstown maiden for John Oxx but he didn't materialise into what we thought he would be and that's why he is running during the summer. He has a mark of 115 which is probably fair enough. We went for this maiden hurdle, as opposed to the other four year old one, as this looked a weaker race.
Paul Nolan
After race at Leopardstown Thu, 7th Jul, 2011 (1st)
He got there, just about. He is still a bit raw. He would probably like a cut in the ground but he got away with it. He needs to improve but he will have learned a bit from that. He is still inexperienced and he'll come on from that. I'd be in no rush to run him on that ground again.
John M Oxx
