Permission was given for Sherpa Trail (USA) to wear a red hood to post.
Sherpa Trail (USA) unseated John Egan on the way to post due to the pin his stirrup leather coming out causing it to come away from the saddle.
Having been examined by the Doctor upon arrival at the start, Egan was deemed fit to race.
Shortly after the race, the Stewards inspected the stirrup leather, and having found them to be in a serviceable condition and therefore no further action was taken.
An enquiry was held to consider interference inside the final furlong involving the winner, Smart Connection, ridden by Kieran O’Neill, Forge Valley Lad (GB), placed third, ridden by Callum Shepherd, Hackbridge (GB), placed fourth, ridden by Hollie Doyle and Pillars Of Earth (GB), placed fifth, ridden by Jack Mitchell.
As part of the enquiry, the Stewards also considered the placings of the third and fourth placed horses.
The Stewards found that the interference was caused by Smart Connection shifting left-handed off its intended line at the same time as Forge Valley Lad (GB) hung right-handed, causing Hackbridge (GB) and Pillars Of Earth (GB) to be tight for racing room on the run to the line.
The Stewards considered that the interference had not improved Forge Valley Lad (GB)’s placing as the interference had been close to the line, there was ¾ of a length between Forge Valley Lad (GB) and Hackbridge (GB), and the fourth placed horse always appeared to be held.
The interference was found to be caused in part by Forge Valley Lad (GB) hanging right-handed before being corrected by Shepherd, and, as such was found to be accidental.
However, O’Neill was suspended for 4 days for careless riding for allowing his mount to drift left-handed without correction, tightening those horses on his inside, with Pillars Of Earth (GB) stumbling and Mitchell having to take a significant check.
Following the race, Hollie Doyle reported that Hackbridge (GB), placed fourth, suffered interference inside the final furlong and Callum Shepherd reported that Forge Valley Lad (GB), placed third, hung right- handed under pressure.
The Veterinary Officer further reported that Couldn't Could She (GB), unplaced, lost its right fore shoe.
