At the eighth fence, Via Dolorosa (FR), placed second, jumped sharply right-handed at the same time as Ofalltheginjoints (IRE), which was later pulled up, jumped slightly left-handed resulting in the pair bumping heavily on landing and becoming unbalanced, but after viewing a recording of the incident, it was found that no riding offence was involved and that it had not improved the placing of Via Dolorosa (FR).
Following the race, the Veterinary Officer reported that Via Dolorosa (FR), placed second, had lost its right-fore shoe, that Shoal Bay (IRE), which was pulled up, had lost its left-fore shoe and that Springtown Lake (IRE), placed third, had lost its left and right-fore shoes.
