The Stewards interviewed C.D. Maxwell, rider of West Ship Master, concerning his use of the whip in the latter stages of this race. Evidence was heard from the rider concerned. Having viewed a recording of the race and considered the evidence the Stewards were of the opinion that C.D. Maxwell was in breach of R10(3)(f) by using his whip with excessive frequency and consequently suspended him for 1 raceday. D.Deacon, trainer of Knocksquire, reported to the Clerk of Scales that his charge lost two shoes during this race. The Stewards requested a report into the apparent improvement in form of Change The Rules, trained by Aengus King, placed first compared with its recent form. Aengus King stated that his charge had previously won a Point to Point prior to running in three beginners steeplchases where he was outpaced and did not jump fluently. On his next outing he ran in his first handicap recently at Gowran Park on the 19th March where he was pulled up being unable to handle the ground. He added that A.P. Heskin schooled this animal last week and was instructed to ride him more prominently in what he considered to be a lesser standard of race. In his opinion the rider rode a very positive race which was a contributing factor to this success. Having considered the evidence the Stewards noted the content of the report.
