Permission was given for Tellovoi (IRE) to go early to post.

Brett Doyle, the rider of Obsession For Gold (IRE), placed fourth, was suspended for 2 days for using his whip above the permitted level from 1½ furlongs out.

An enquiry was held into the running and riding of Cheerful (GB), ridden by Ray Dawson and trained by Philip McBride, which after breaking slowly was settled towards the rear of the field, before being brought wide round the home turn to stay on under apparent tender handling to finish eleventh, beaten by 8¾ lengths.

The rider and the trainer were interviewed and shown recordings of the race; the Veterinary Officer reported that an initial post-race examination of the filly failed to reveal any abnormalities but a secondary post-race examination revealed Cheerful (GB) finished lame on its left fore.

The rider stated his instructions had been to find a position from a wide draw and ride the race as he found it.

He added that having been slightly slowly into stride, he had settled Cheerful (GB) at the rear of the field and then had to come wide round the field entering the home straight.

He continued that the filly took a blow with him shortly after turning in and felt as if it was moving poorly so was unable to ride Cheerful (GB) out as vigorously as he had wished.

The trainer stated that the ride accorded with his instructions and the filly has been very green to date and the pedigree suggests may need further in time.

Their explanations were noted; however, Dawson was fined £140 for failing to report at scales that the filly had moved poorly.

Following the race, Megan Nicholls reported that Squire (GB), placed third, was slowly away and Charles Bishop reported that Accomplice (GB), placed sixth, was denied a clear run rounding the home turn.
