Easy opening race win for Tarla

Tarla just didn't handle the ground at Listowel . soft ground there is different, eventhough this was quite testing today. We are debating whether to go over fences or stay hurdling . looking at her there she'll have no problems jumping a fence and over the next month we'll have a think and see. She certainly looks as good a mare as there is around and while there's a nice mares series over hurdles, there is also a good programmer over fences for her . if she goes chasing I'd prefer to go earlier that later.

Impressive hurdle debut for 'World

that was grand! I don't know how good a race it was but he couldn't do any more and it was a nice introduction to the game for him. Today is his first day out (since his point to point) and it's all a bit new for him. He was fresh today, jumped well and I couldn't be happier with him.

Civena scores 16/1 upset

the ground slowed the rest of them down a bit as she jumps and really gallops. She has won a point to point and will eventually go chasing but maybe not this year. She'll make a good mares' chaser next year and the further the better for her.

Six-timer for Green in Buck House Chase

we were going to give Baily Green a break but he was so well and there was this Grade 3 for him and it wasn't to be sniffed at. I could see Baily Green coming back for something like Aintree but I'll keep my options open but he'll have to step up now. Regarding his preference for a slightly better surface, Morris added .it's not that Baily Green doesn't go on the heavy ground, but it catches his wind. David gave him a very good ride, he waited, had one crack and had to wing the second last fence.

Roi is king for the day!

this was his Gold Cup! The plan was to 'make it' (the running) and we knew he had come on a lot from his run the last day. He won this race last year too and is a grand little horse who will pick up a bit of prizemoney along the way this season. He's not over-big but has a big heart and loves the soft ground - we'll pick and choose where we go with him this season and probably avoid a lot of the Grade 1 chases in favour of more Grade 2s and 3s.

Heck of a debut win!

we thought he'd win and he did so that's grand! He did a bit (of work) last spring so we had a good idea he was pretty useful. He'll go jumping straightaway and he has schooled well. Nina said he stayed really well, and his pedigree would suggest that but he is not short of boot either. He was a very hard horse to break and took three months to get up on him - that's not a bad sign though as it shows that they have a bit of fight in them!
