Permission was given for Port Lairge (GB) to go early to post and be mounted on the course.
An enquiry was held into the running and riding of Dance King (GB), ridden by Miss Emily Easterby and trained by Tim Easterby, which was dropped out in the rear of the field until making headway in the home straight to finish fourth, beaten by 4 lengths.
The rider and the trainer were interviewed and shown recordings of the race and the Veterinary Officer reported that a post-race examination of the gelding failed to reveal any abnormalities.
The rider stated her instructions were to take a lead and get the gelding passing horses in the home straight.
She added that Dance King (GB) was slowly away from the stalls, and although she was slapping the gelding down the neck in the back straight, she was unable to get a closer position.
The trainer stated that the ride accorded with his instructions and he was satisfied with the ride given, however he added that the gelding has become reluctant early in his races and would have preferred the gelding to be in a more prominent position leaving the back straight.
He further added that Dance King (GB) may benefit from a change of headgear in the future.
Their explanations were noted.
Following the race, the Veterinary Officer reported that Port Lairge (GB), unplaced, finished lame on its right fore.
