P.J. Smullen, rider of Artiste Celebre, trained by Timothy Doyle, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that his mount was checked when weakening out of the race. M.C. Hussey, rider of Eretara, trained by David Harry Kelly, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that his mount was checked in the straight and did not get a clear run thereafter. . The Stewards requested a report from Augustine Leahy, trainer, as to the apparent improvement in form of Trade Marked, placed first, as compared with its recent form. Augustine Leahy reported that his charge ran too freely when apprentice ridden at Bellewstown on the 30th June whereas today he was dropped out in last place in a fast run race which allowed him to arrive with a good run in the straight. He further added that he ran this animal today because of a lack of opportunity and did not feel that the distance had any bearing as he had been versatile over a wide range of distances. Having considered the evidence the Stewards noted the content of the report.
