The winner, Elhafei (USA), appeared to show improved form compared with its previous run at Salisbury on 25 April 2021, where the gelding finished thirteenth of fourteen, beaten by 28 lengths.
It was noted that John Mackie could offer no explanation for Elhafei (USA)’s improved form, other than the gelding may have been suited by a slower run race here at Catterick.
Elhafei (USA) was routine tested.
Rounding the home bend, Para Queen, unplaced, hung right and ran wide on the bend, carrying Euro Implosion (IRE), placed sixth, and Betty Grable (IRE), placed eighth, off their intended lines, but after viewing a recording of the incident it was found that no riding offence was involved.
Following the race, Rhona Pindar reported that Betty Grable (IRE) hung left throughout and was carried wide off the bend.
