Sans Frontieres put in a performance in keeping with the confidence of those that backed him into 13/8 favouritism when beating Profound Beauty a good deal better than the three parts of a length distance would suggest in the Group 1 Irish Field St. Leger at the Curragh.

Olivier Peslier held up the victorious son of Galileo but once he loomed up two furlongs out he looked a likely scorer. Profound Beauty came with her challenge travelling well in the straight too but she couldn't hold-off Jeremy Noseda's charge in the end. There was a length and three parts back to Flying Cross and a further length and a half back to Rajik in fourth.

Barry Simpson, representing winning owner Sir Robert Ogden (his first Group 1 winner) said: "He did his best piece of work ever in the last few weeks and Jeremy was very confident coming here although the ground was a concern. His fourth placing behind Harbinger at Ascot offered us a glimmer of hope and he has gone on from there.

"Cheek-pieces have sharpened him up and the Melbourne Cup would be a strong possibility now."

William Hill cut San Frontieres into 14/1 from 25/1 for the Melbourne Cup whilst they left Profound Beauty unchanged at 14/1.
