Well Polly scooted right away to take the Roscommon Herald Handicap and, in so doing, gave trainer Jennifer Lee her first success under rules. Miss Us O hit the front at the third last and was followed through by a closing Well Polly. The leader came under the whip racing to the next as Well Polly appeared to be travelling the stronger.
A better jump two out saw Well Polly lead and the pair increased their margin at the last. Once the eight-year-old mare popped it, she drew right away to hit the line seven and a half lengths to the good. She was returned at 18/1 and certainly wasn't unbacked as she was available at 33/1 this morning.
Miss Us O (9/2) was a clear second as she was same distance in front of Dalileo (8/1). Getaway Milani completed the placings in fourth at 14/1.
Lee, a sister of jockey Billy Lee, said: "That's my first winner as a trainer, I had a few point-to-point winners over the years but that's my first winner on the track.
“She's a funny old lady and Darragh (O'Keeffe) was the key to her today, to be fair.
"We put the cheekpieces on her the last day and they just changed her jumping, she jumped so much slicker today.
“She has plenty of ability but it's just a matter of getting it out of her.
“I'm delighted to get it. The plan was to go over fences after this, if she didn't do it today, but we might give her another crack at the same thing again.
“We'll enjoy today anyway.”
