Newcomer One Look put in a devastating display to annex a massive pot on debut in the Goffs Million at the Curragh.

This seven-furlong race carried a total prize fund of €1,232,000 with very healthy cheques down to 10th place, but everybody was gunning for the first prize of €610,000. Cherry Blossom the Group 2 Lowther runner-up, was a warm order in this big field and went off even-money favourite, however, One Look was nicely backed down to 5/1.

Cherry Blossom, with Frankie Dettori up, came through to lead just outside the final furlong but she was readily passed inside the furlong pole by New Look who surged into the lead. From there, she absolutely lashed home to put six lengths on the favourite who was a neck in front of My Mate Alfie (8/1).

This brought up a lucrative double on the day for Paddy Twomey and Billy Lee who also struck with Deepone in the Group 2 Beresford Stakes.

Twomey said: “She's a nice filly and she's been a nice filly all year. I thought I would have run her earlier but it's just the way it worked out and she was just ready to run this week.

“I had her in the maiden at Down Royal on Monday. I think she's a nice filly and I gave her an (Irish) Guineas entry on Wednesday.

“I thought she was ready to start and good enough to be competitive. The plan was to track Frankie and see how we got on.”

When asked if the winner could run again this year he added: “I wouldn't think so. That was a big performance to do that on debut. Maybe she'll say yes but I doubt it.

“We have nice two-year-olds. I'm delighted as the owners sent me two horses this year for the first time and both have won first time out now. Juxtaposition won the first mile maiden at Leopardstown.”

Paddy Power introduced One Look at 20/1 for the 1,000 Guineas and this price quickly contracted to 14/1.
