Townend to return tomorrow

Wed 28th Dec 2011, 12:17

Fears that Paul Townend may be facing another lengthy spell on the sidelines have been allayed as the Irish champion jump jockey is set to return to action at Leopardstown tomorrow following a heavy fall at the south Dublin track on Tuesday.

Townend, who was ruled out of the saddle for a number of spells earlier this year with a fractured collarbone, went for xrays on his left collarbone after being stood down when Golden Silver took a fatal fall in the Paddy Power Dial-A-Bet Chase.

However he was cleared following the tests and Turf Club doctor Adrian McGoldrick said this morning, "Paul is still sore and has been stood down today but will be fit to ride tomorrow."

He is booked to ride Unaccompanied in the featured Istabraq Festival Hurdle at Leopardstown tomorrow, as well as What A Charm in the Grade 3 Mares Hurdle.

His place aboard Cooldine in today's Lexus Chase is taken by David Casey while in the other Grade 1 on the card, the Topaz Fort Leney Novice Chase, Emmet Mullins rides Raptor
