Feddans (13/2 into 3/1 favourite) landed a gamble in the concluding Irish Stallion Farms EBF Mares INH Flat Race at Punchestown.
Owned, trained and bred by John O’Callaghan in Carrick-On-Suir, Feddans, like in her two previous starts, was ridden by Tom Feeney (5 day whip ban).
She reversed Cork form behind Betty Zane from 16 days ago, with eventual eighth placer here, Cute Cherry
That one was involved in a bit of scrimmaging approaching the straight but was ultimately well beaten and there was no disguising Feddans’ superiority at the end.
The Dansant mare came home with three and a half lengths and half a length to spare over Mi Lighthouse and Eyre Square
“Tom said you could ride her anyway you like today after the two spins,” said O'Callaghan.
“In Naas she was very green. The last day probably didn't go to plan but she wouldn't have beaten the winner anyway. She was spot on today.
“We'll probably go for another bumper if we can.”
The Stewards interviewed Mr T. Feeney, rider of Feddans, concerning his use of the whip in the latter stages of this race.
Evidence was heard from the rider concerned.
Having viewed a recording of the race and considered the evidence the Stewards were of the opinion that Mr. T Feeney was in breach of R10(3)(g) by using his whip with excessive frequency and R(10)(3)(i) by using his whip without allowing his mount at least three strides to respond.
Having taken his previous record into consideration, the Stewards suspended Mr. T Feeney for 5 race days.
