Michael Halford saddled a quick double at Dundalk this evening when Russian Soul claimed a competitive looking mile handicap.
Conor Hoban did the steering this time and produced his mount with a strong run on the outer to lead over a furlong from home.
The 5/1 shot was soon in control and kept on strongly in the closing stages to record a length-and-a-half success. Captain Joy finished well to claim the runner-up spot but couldn't peg back the cosy winner.
Russian Soul had been a staying on fourth in a good race at Leopardstown last time having won twice previously, including over course and distance.
"He did it well from his draw (widest in 14)," said Halford.
"He loves that surface. He's a big strong horse and is improving with racing. We'll keep him to that surface."
King Of Dudes was backed from 6/1 into 4/1 favourite but was never involved in ninth.
Halford had teamed up with Shane Foley in the previous race when Red Laser had scored.
