Scots double for Willie & Ruby
Following the win of the Maureen Mullins-bred The Hurl in the second, another horse from a family strongly associated with the Mullins', Scotsirish landed the featured Grade 2 Normans Grove Steeplechase to bring up a double for Willie. Stable jockey Ruby Walsh rode the pair.
To make things even better for the Closutton outfit, Snowy Morning ran a good race to finish four and a half lengths second to the 7/4 victor. Scotsirish led three out and stayed on well from the back of the last to prevail with Mansony putting up a creditable effort to be a head back in third.
Mullins said: "Ruby was adamant that he didn't made enough use of Scotsirish last time at Leopardstown so that's why he went on three out there. He jumped from fence to fence and I was also very pleased with Snowy Morning as well.
"That was his first try over fences at two miles. I've no immediate plans for the pair but Scotsirish does have an entry in the Ryanair though he'll run again before then – he'll be earning his keep."
The well-backed Rare Bob was found to be post race normal. However he lost a left fore shoe in running and his rider Paddy Flood said he blew-up.
