"Obviously she likes this time of the year. We felt she was a bit unlucky a lot of times. She's a bit hard on herself and can be a bit free," reported winning trainer Pat Martin after his Lady Rosebud blitzed the opposition in the Irishinjuredjockeys.com Handicap at Dundalk.
There was market support for the second and third home, Texas Radio (8s into 6s) and Military Hill (12s into 7s) but they couldn't live with 9/1 chance Lady Rosebud (backed in from 12s herself).
In-form apprentice Conor McGovern was aboard Lady Rosebud in the Derek Molloy colours and the four-year-old daughter of Sir Prancealot scored by three lengths.
"Because of her mother staying as well as she did we tried to up her in trip but she never really relaxed well enough to get a mile-and-two," elaborated Martin.
"Maybe in time she'll get nine furlongs or a little bit further on grass.
"She has plenty of boot if things go right for her and he gave her a smashing ride. It went well for her today.
"I don't know what it is about her but she seems to be happier at this time of year. She never runs a bad race but maybe just this is her time of year. We felt she was well coming here today."
The Stewards enquired into an incident in the straight involving At Your Service (GB), ridden by S.B. Kelly, Zippy (GB), ridden by K.K. Hennessy, and Casuist ridden by B.M. Coen. Evidence was heard from the riders concerned. B.M. Coen, gave his evidence in the presence of his master, Andrew Slattery, trainer. Having viewed the recording of the race and considered the evidence, the Stewards found K.K. Hennessy in breach of Rule 214 by careless riding and having taken his clean record into account the Stewards cautioned the rider.
R. Coakley, rider of Acari trained by Garry Caldwell, reported to the Clerk of Scales that his mount ran short of space in the straight.
