We had a 28/1 winner on the Flat card at Cork on Saturday, with John Joe Walsh's Never Again, and that was almost matched when 25/1 chance Roryslittlesister landed the Cork Racecourse Handicap under Niall McCullagh.
In the familiar Eugene Kavanagh silks, McCullagh got the Shane Duffy handled Captain Rio mare, equipped with a first-time tongue-strap, home by half a length from Enter The Red
"She shows us bags of toe, and lots of ability at home, but she wasn't letting herself down at Dundalk. I ran her there to get experience as she was late in life being broken and getting to the races. Mentally she needed that," explained Duffy.
"She is a progressive filly and it's onwards and upwards now. She is owned by a gentleman in Eugene, and he bought her from the breeder, another gentleman, Michael Munnelly, so I'm delighted she won. If there is an ease she'll go to Limerick in ten days time."
The Stewards requested a report from S.M.Duffy, trainer as to the apparent improvement in form of Roryslittlesister, placed first, as compared with its recent form. The trainer reported that his charge was not letting herself down at Dundalk and the combination of today's softer ground and the first time tongue tie, helped his charge show the improved form.Having considered the evidence the Stewards noted the explanation offered.
