Prince Charmin' showed improvement to land his first victory in the Dan Cowman Memorial Maiden at Tramore.

The three-year-old son of High Chaparral stalked Wilms Warrior before taking over with over a quarter of a mile to race. Propriano set off in pursuit but once Prince Charmin' was ridden by Declan McDonogh on the approach to the home bend he found more and asserted in the closing stages.

The winning margin at the end of this mile and a half contest was a length and three parts. The winner was the well supported 15/8 favourite. He could have been backed at 10/3 in the morning.

Propriano (5/1) finished a length and a quarter in front of third-placed Galaxor who was nicely backed at the track from 12s to 8/1.

John Oxx's assistant trainer Slim O'Neill said: "That was great and we have a good record around here. The ground was a little dead for him but he toughed it out, he is an honest little sort of a horse even though he has an aversion to the starting stalls.

"I don't know why that is as he is very, very quiet at home, very straightforward. We will just try to find a little handicap for him now. He will stay two mile and he'll be better on quicker ground. He could end up jumping hurdles for someone some day."

Prince Charmin' had finished unplaced in his three previous outings, with a best finish of fifth in the Curragh.
