Baby Power recorded her second win of the season, and her third overall, as she claimed the Dooley Insurance Apprentice Handicap.

Successful at the Curragh on her penultimate start, the Garry Caldwell trained six-year-old since finished seventh of twenty-two over the course and distance last month.

Sent off at 5/1 this afternoon, the daughter of Frozen Power raced in mid-division under Gavin Ryan, taking closer order from the two furlong pole.

Ridden in third on the inner over a furlong out, she was soon switched to the outer and powered home from there, getting to the front inside the final 50 yards before going on to score by three parts of a length. Tai Sing Yeh (7/1) ran a fine race to take second under Donagh O'Connor for Johnny Levins, while the front-running Shore Step (10/1) was another half a length back in third with Nikita Kane aboard. Miacomet was returned the 9/2 favourite, but she never looked like winning and finished a disappointing twelfth.

Caldwell, who trains the winner for his father Bernard, said: "I was a bit disappointed the last day when she had nothing to take her along.

"Today the plan was to drop her in and he gave her an absolute peach of a ride. She travelled the whole way and just found the gaps. She just has to be produced late.

"She will go back to the Curragh now in two weeks and hopefully she can keep improving."

STEWARDS REPORT

The Irish Horseracing Regulatory Board Veterinary Officer examined Miacomet, trained by Jack W. Davison, at the request of the Stewards and reported the animal to be coughing post race.
