Potomac came with a strong surge to give Tyrone trainer Andy Oliver success in the mile handicap at Cork.
Chris Hayes got a good tune from his mount to grab front-runner Northern Rocked inside the final furlong.
The lightly-raced Shamardal gelding was good value for a length-and-a-half success over 2/1 favourite Bold Thady Quill who ran on late to grab second.
The 4/1 winner had run well over ten furlongs at Leopardstown last time and the drop back in trip seemed to do the trick today.
"Chris gave him a great well judged ride," said Oliver.
"He'd been off the track for a year but had a couple of nice runs before today and is progressing.
"He's a good honest horse and handles that ground. We'll see where we go now from here."
Chris Hayes added:- "He did it well. They went a nice pace the whole way and just steadied it up across the top.
"He keeps galloping and is dead genuine and honest. I knew the whole way up the straight I was going to get them. He's a nice horse and is improving.
"He's pretty versatile ground wise and had form on the all-weather. I wouldn't be afraid to run him on good ground."
