Ambrose McCurtin got a tune out of Page Turner as the pair ploughed through the testing ground in Limerick to win by nine and a half lengths.

There was plenty of money around for John Jo Walsh’s nine-year-old in this two mile one handicap chase as he opened at 7/1 this morning and contracted to 3/1 on the off.

McCurtin made it a test from the front, only yielding it briefly after the third last to Toostrong Over the last two fences he forged on and stretched away for a clear-cut victory.

Trainer John Jo Walsh said: “I thought the ground would be too heavy for him, but two miles is his journey. He gave him a good cute ride as he gave him a breather up the hill and he came home well.

“He has won nowhere else and he’s a funny type of horse and can’t be ridden with blinkers at home. He won’t stay two and a half miles and won’t go on hard ground.”

Gigginstown’s Toostrong was second at 6/1. Kandinski the 5/4 favourite, was 11 lengths adrift in third after making no impression in the home straight.

This was Page Turner's third win at Limerick from seven starts there.
