Beyond The Obvious made all to win the opener at Navan, the Bective Restaurant Maiden Hurdle, for the father and son team of Martin and Mark Lynch.

Successful in a bumper over the course in November the eight-year-old daughter of Oscar was making his debut over hurdles today.

Sent off a 13/2 chance he had all his rivals in trouble turning into the straight and he kept up in the gallop, going on to score by sixteen lengths. Tayto Park was sent off the 4/9 favourite and he finished a well-beaten second under Phillip Enright for Tony Martin. Fenlon's Hill (14/1) completed the placings a further three and a quarter lengths back in third under Jonathan Moore for Paul Stafford.

Trainer Martin Lynch said afterwards: "He's a horse that has had a lot of problems but has ability. Every day is a bonus with him but we'll find a winners of one for him now and hopefully he can go chasing next season.

"At the sales a lot of people would have gone by him but I could see something and that's how he got his name. He's well-bred, and his dam is a full-sister to Newmill."
