Never Rains justified good support when opening her account at the eighth attempt in the Tote Claiming Race at Killarney.
The Fozzy Stack-trained filly was as big as 20/1 before two of her rivals came out of the mile event due to the change in going, and was eventually sent off the 100/30 favourite.
The daughter of No Nay Never tracked the leaders on the rail, and was switched out by Andrew Slattery to make her challenge over a furlong out.
She kept on strongly inside the final furlong to wear down Adapt To Dan by half a length. Stormy Air kept on strongly to finish a further length back in third.
Andrew Slattery, “John (Halligan) rides her out every day at home and she can be a bit keen but he’s done a good job on her. John is a big part of the yard and it’s down to him that she is so relaxed.
“Everything fell right today and she won well in the end.
“She will probably go further again. That good gallop suited her so further is probably the way for her.”
The claiming action afterwards was dominated by Denis Hogan, with the second and third remaining in his yard at a cost of 3,000 and 10,000 euro respectively to be joined by the winner for 7,000.
